The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested the manager of a local renovation company on Wednesday for causing a fire in a guestroom of a hotel in Cotai after dropping a still lit cigarette end in the room where his company was carrying out a refurbishment project, PJ spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Chan identified the suspect as a 32-year-old local man surnamed Chao.

The case was first announced in a PJ statement on Wednesday, according to which the Judiciary Police received a report from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) at 3:25 p.m. on that day that a fire had erupted in a guestroom of a hotel in Cotai. A CB statement identified the venue as a guestroom on the 11th floor of Galaxy Macau’s JW Marriott Hotel Macau in Cotai.
