Govt raises disability subsidy

The government has raised its annual disability subsidy to 9,000 patacas for beneficiaries classified as being in the “normal” category and 18,000 patacas for those in the “special” category, from 8,000 patacas and 16,000 patacas respectively, a 12.5 percent increase, according to an executive order published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.

The increases took effect from yesterday, according to the executive order signed by Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On.

The government launched the disability subsidy scheme in 2011 when the government paid 6,000 patacas and 12,000 patacas annually to each recipient covered by the “normal” category subsidy and the “special” category subsidy respectively. Since then the government has raised the amounts several times.
