A local man was arrested by the Public Security Police for drunk riding and sentenced by a court this week to a three-month prison term, or payment of a 13,500-pataca fine, and a one-year suspension of his driving licence, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference on Wednesday.
The suspect surnamed Leong, who is in his thirties, told the police that he works as a designer.
Lai said that when PSP officers intercepted a scooter at 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday in Rua do Visconde Paço de Arcos in the Inner Harbour area they noticed that the rider – Leong – reeked of alcohol and conducted a breathalyser test on him. The test showed that Leong’s alcohol concentration was 1.35 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood, confirming the offence of driving under the influence (DUI).
Leong confessed to DUI and told the officers that he drank between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m. that day in a restaurant in Fai Chi Kei district.
Following his arrest by the police, a judge found him guilty of DUI and sentenced him to three months in prison, or the payment of a fine of 13,500 patacas, and suspended his driving licence for one year, according to Lai.
