A local man who is in his eighties was arrested on Wednesday for puncturing the four tyres of a car last Monday near Big Taipa Hill because he was upset that the vehicle was blocking in his car, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Choi Iok Kin said at a regular press conference on Friday.

The suspect is a retiree surnamed Iong.

According to Choi, a local couple reported to the Public Security Police last Monday that the four tyres of their car parked in Estrada Padre Estevão Eusébio Sítu had been punctured.

When the couple returned to the car they discovered the four flat tyres. The couple had a closer look and discovered that the four tyres appeared to have been deliberately punctured by someone.

Thanks to CCTV footage, the Public Security Police discovered that a man had parked his car near the victim’s vehicle in the wee hours of last Monday. The CCTV footage showed the man puncturing the four tyres of the couple’s car.

The officers intercepted Iong near the crime scene early on Wednesday. Iong admitted that he punctured the tyres with a nail he found on the road. He told the police that he parked his car at the scene and went for a morning walk up the hill. When he returned to his car after his morning walk, he found out that the couple’s car was so closely parked next to his that it was hard for him to get into his car. He got so upset that he decided to puncture the four tyres of the couple’s car with a nail that he had found nearby on the road. After venting his anger he squeezed himself into his car and drove away, according to Choi who said that the victims told the police that the repairs amounted to 3,600 patacas.

Iong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of causing property damage, according to Choi.
