A sculpture by Argentine artist Leandro Erlich called “Global City” (全球城), which is part of the ongoing Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021 (藝文薈澳,創造美好) event, is on display outside the Taipa Houses (龍環葡韻) until Friday.
The exhibition is hosted by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) in conjunction with the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
According to the Art Macao website, Erlich was born in Argentina in 1973. He works and lives in both Buenos Aires and Montevideo. His works have been exhibited in different countries and regions such as the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum (CAFA) (中央美術學院) in Beijing in 2019, and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan in 2020.
According to a statement by the Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), Erlich describes the concept of creation as being around the idea of “a global village”. His sculpture is mainly made of steel and resin. It aims to inspire viewers to explore in depth how the internet, the convenience in life, and communication as well as interaction between people, are connected with the threat to human civilisation faced by the Earth, the statement notes.
