The Macau International Airport recorded 3.73 million passengers in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 91 percent, airport operator CAM has announced in a statement.

According to the statement on Friday, the local airport recorded a total of around 29,000 aircraft movements in the first six months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 72 percent.

According to the statement, the number of passengers and aircraft movements recorded during the first half of this year both returned to around 80 percent of the levels recorded during the same period of pre-pandemic 2019.

The statement said that passengers on mainland China routes accounted for 46 percent of the total passenger numbers during the first half of this year, while passengers on routes serving China’s Taiwan region represented 17 percent of the total. The remaining passengers, 37 percent of the total, took international flights.

In addition, the statement also said that between January and May this year, the number of passengers arriving at the local airport with a foreign passport stood at 230,000, a year-on-year increase of 280 percent.
