The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) yesterday once again launched its annual “Creating Better Job Perspectives” internship programme for local residents who graduated from a tertiary education institution between 2018 and this year, offering 1,338 positions in 15 areas by 65 participating enterprises covering nine major sectors – finance, retail, construction, science and technology, healthcare, aviation, public utilities and social services, among others, according to a press conference at the DSAL headquarters.

Applications for the programme, which has been launched for four consecutive years, are being accepted until July 18.

During the three-month-long internship period, according to the press conference, the participating interns will receive a monthly salary of 8,000 patacas, or an hourly rate of 50 patacas from their respective companies, as well as insurance. However, the press conference pointed out that no contractual employment relationship will be set up between the participating companies and their interns under the programme.

DSAL Employment Department Chief Lei Lai Keng said during the press conference that in line with the government’s “1+4” model as a core strategy to promote Macau’s appropriate economic diversification, this year’s programme focuses on promoting the diversified development of the city’s tourism and leisure sector and the participation of more enterprises related to the four new key industries, i.e., big health, modern finance, high-tech, and conventions and exhibitions including culture and sport. Lei added that 59 non-leisure companies have signed up for the programme, a year-on-year increase of more than 15 percent, with 540 internship positions being offered, a year-on-year growth of nearly 35 percent.

Lei noted that over the past three years, 1,351 participants completed their internships under the programme, of whom afterwards 503 received employment offers from the respective companies, with more than 10 percent having meanwhile been promoted.
