The 14th Macau International Short Film Festival came to a close yesterday and hosted a Gala Award Ceremony, with the “Best Film of the Festival” award going to Colombian director Duván Duque Vargas for his 2022 fictional short film “All-Inclusive”.

This year’s festival ran from December 5-13, screening a total of 126 short films (SHORTS) and 10 music videos (VOLUME) at Teatro Capitol in Rua de Pedro Nolasco da Silva. The prize-giving ceremony presented a total of 17 awards to filmmakers, though not all, such as Duque Vargas, were present at the event.

Among the awardees, Russian Director Olga Smirnova’s entry “Eva” garnered the festival’s “Best Documentary” award. Moreover, “Out Of The Fog” by French director Tigrane Minassian was crowned with the “Best Fiction” award, while an entry from Germany entitled “DODO” by Yi Luo, who is originally from the Chinese mainland, won “Best Animation”.

For local directors, Lei Weng Ian clinched the Best Local Entry award for her short film “Light On, Light Off”, while Chan Sou Teng garnered the Macau Cultural Identity award for “The Lost Eden of Birds”. Local Filipino director Bryan Garcia also took home this year’s Audience Award for his documentary “Those Who Paved the Way”.

Meanwhile, for VOLUME, “Montage 2OYO” by Filipe Baptista Tou nabbed this year’s Best Music Video award. The video was directed by Rubi Ho Oi Yee.

Prestigious awards for both SHORTS and VOLUME were also presented at yesterday’s ceremony, while a screening of the winning films and music videos was held after the event.
