Two male tourists from Tanzania were arrested on Tuesday for selling methamphetamine (aka ice) in the city centre, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said at a special press conference yesterday, noting that in the operation the police seized a total of 11.62 grams of ice, with an estimated street value of 40,000 patacas.

According to Lei, the two jobless suspects, who are in their thirties, are surnamed Nyimbile and Ndambwe. The duo had been selling drugs in Macau for about two months, Lei said.

Upon receiving a tip-off that two African men were selling drugs in the city centre, the Judiciary Police identified and put the two suspects under surveillance on Tuesday afternoon, Lei said, adding that PJ officers intercepted the duo at about 8 p.m. that day when they exited a residential building in the San Kio district.

Realising that the officers were going to search them, Nyimbile discarded several items in the street, which were retrieved by the officers and later confirmed to be ice, according to Lei, who noted that the officers seized three packs of ice weighing 2.58 grams from Nyimbile and 11 packs of ice weighing 9.04 grams from the two bedrooms they rented.

Under questioning, the duo admitted to a drug habit, but refused to cooperate with the police. The duo tested positive for drugs.

Lei noted that the two suspects were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing charges of drug trafficking and abuse.
