The University of Macau (UM) is holding an on-campus invitational women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday and Thursday, with the event set to feature teams from UM, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lanzhou University, and the Pedagogical University of Maputo in Mozambique, according to a statement from the public university on Wednesday.
The statement noted that the BNU-sponsored two-day “Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Macao SAR: University Women’s Volleyball Invitational Tournament” will take place at the university’s Sports Pavilion.
The statement said that UM invited the Mozambican team for the first time to play in an invitational tournament in support of the local government’s plan to develop Macau into a “City of Sports” and to promote cultural exchanges with Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs).
The event will kick off with an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by the first match between UM and the Pedagogical University of Maputo teams, according to the statement. Meanwhile, the finals and award ceremony will start at 5 p.m. on Thursday. For the full match schedule, one can visit the public university’s website.
