A mainlander was arrested on Friday for stealing a watch worth 2,000 patacas from a security guard, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Wong identified the suspect as a male surnamed Li, who is in his thirties and told the police that he is jobless.
According to Wong, a non-resident worker (NRW) working as a security guard at a casino in Cotai reported in late-February that his watch worth 2,000 patacas had gone missing. The victim told the police that he had left the watch on a security inspection table while on duty. After he noticed it had vanished, he reviewed the casino’s CCTV footage, in which he saw a man steal the watch when he was picking up his belongings after passing through security screening. The victim immediately reported the case to the police.
Using the casino’s surveillance footage, the police identified Li as the suspect. The footage showed him passing through the security screening, picking up his belongings, and stealing the watch before leaving the scene. The police intercepted Li on Friday as he was re-entering Macau at the Barrier Gate checkpoint.
Under questioning, Li denied stealing the watch, insisting that he had “accidentally” picked up. He also told the police that the watch is currently at his home in the mainland.
According to Wong, Li has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) and is facing a theft charge.
