The “Macau Famine” educational and fundraising campaign series, held between January and this month, has raised about 700,000 patacas, and all the proceeds will be used to help fund World Vision’s projects in Africa, including food aid, medical services, livelihood support, and water infrastructure, World Vision of Macau Association Office Director Amelia Che Siu Mei told reporters on the sidelines of yesterday’s closing ceremony.
The 2025 Macau Famine Closing Ceremony & Award Presentation organised by World Vision Macau, took place at Sheng Kung Hui Choi Kou School (Macau) yesterday afternoon.
The attendees included school representatives, the award-winning “10-hour famine camp” prize-winning students from the All-Macau Primary School Drawing Competition, and their families.
Che told reporters that over 34,000 participants have so far participated in the “Macau Famine” series in various ways, including nearly 20,000 participants who took part in lectures. Che said that the target of this year’s ongoing donation drive is 800,000 patacas, and that serval events are still open to participants, including charity sales. She urged more citizens to participate.
Che noted that local residents have not been as active in donating money as before, such as at Flag Day events which are usually held on Saturdays and Sundays. Che said she had noticed fewer residents during this year’s Flag Day events than before, therefore, there were fewer donations during this year’s Flag Day events than last year. This year’s “Flag Day” campaign has been completed, she stressed.
This year’s “Macau Famine” educational and fundraising campaigns held between January and May have included the All-Macau Primary School Drawing Competition, Flag Day activities, School Famine Events, Charity Bread Sales, “Skip-a-Meal,” and the “10-hour famine camp”.
Yesterday’s closing ceremony featured choir performances and several educational booth games for attendees. The event was sponsored by Macau Coca-Cola Beverage Co. Ltd.
