The 17th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (PSCs) is slated to run from September 26 through November 18, featuring art groups, artisans, and chefs from the Chinese mainland and nine PSCs, with programmes to be staged not only in Macau as before but also in Beijing and Zhongshan for the first time.
The event was announced at a press conference yesterday at the Complex of the Commerce and Trade Cooperation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, aka Forum Macao Complex, in Sai Van. The secretary-general of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and PSCs, Ji Xianzhen, told reporters that the Cultural Week has long served as a cultural bridge and emphasised Macau’s role as a platform between China and PSCs.
According to the press conference, the official opening ceremony will take place on September 26 at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf’s Legend Boulevard in Nape, with performances by groups from Qinghai Province and nine PSCs: Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste (East Timor)
The programme will include music and dance shows, handicraft fair, gastronomy, and product showcases, the statement added. Other highlights include the “Collective Exhibition of Audiovisual Works” on September 26, and on October 24 the inauguration of the Lusophone Visual Arts Exhibition alongside the launch of the Chinese translation of the Angolan literary work “Será Este Livro Um Romance?” (“Will This Book Be a Novel?”) by João Melo, according to the statement.
Running until November 18, this year’s edition will expand beyond Macau to the national capital Beijing and Zhongshan, a city some 60 kilometres north of Macau, aiming to reflect its growing role as a cultural exchange platform under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, the statement added.
Residents and tourists alike are invited to take part in the celebrations and explore the richness of the Sino-Lusophone culture. More information can be found on https://www.forumchinaplp.org.mo/page/Semana-Cultural and on https://semanacultural.forumchinaplp.org.mo.
