Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak confirmed yesterday that officers of the Macau Customs Service mistakenly raised the national flag upside down at the Coloane Pier on April 21. Wong also said it was “unbelievable” that the Customs Service repeated the mistake of incorrectly raising the national flag.

Wong made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the closing ceremony for a summer camp for high school pupils and local university students, at the Taipa barracks of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Macau Garrison.

The Macau Customs Service confirmed in a statement last week that its staff mistakenly raised the national flag upside down at the Coloane Pier, contradicting its previous claim that online photos showing the national flag raised upside down there – circulated on the Internet early this month – were parody photos.
