The Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) is urging the public to stay away from Hac Sa Beach as fuel was found on the sand once again last week.
The bureau said in a statement on Thursday that Macau Waste System Company (CSR) staff went to clean up Hac Sa Beach as soon as the fuel was discovered earlier that day while a notice was also put up on the beach advising beachgoers to stay off the sand. It noted that the fuel was only sighted on Hac Sa (“Black Sand”) Beach, but not on nearby Cheoc Van (“Bamboo Bay”) Beach.
Last month, the bureau first spotted a “black substance” on Hac Sa Beach and Cheoc Van Beach. After the incidents last month, the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) and the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) inspected the beaches and took samples of the substance from both beaches. According to the laboratory test results, the “black substance” consisted of fuel. The bureau said that the “black substance” was believed to have washed up on the two beaches.
