Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has appointed Inês Chan Lou as the new director of the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS).

The appointment was published in yesterday’s Official Gazette (BO), based on an executive order dated June 16.

Chan has been appointed for one year, starting Wednesday, July 1.

A GCS statement pointed out that Chan has attended on behalf of the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) more than 100 press conferences held by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre since the COVID-19 alert early this year.

According to the statement, Chan joined the public administration in 1990. Before joining MGTO in 1994, she worked for the Mapping and Land Registry Bureau (DSCC) where was tasked with the development of information and technology systems. Her current position is chief of the Licensing and Inspection Department of MGTO.

Chan holds two bachelor’s degrees, one in Engineering (Computer Science) and the other in Science (Topographic Mapping and Land Use Planning), as well as a master’s degree in Public Administration (majoring in International Relations).

A separate notice published in Official Gazette yesterday said that outgoing GCS Director Victor Chan Chi Ping has been appointed an advisor to the Office of Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong from July 1 to December 19. Informed sources have told The Macau Post Daily that Victor Chan’s advisory position is temporary as he’s expected to take up an executive position in a public enterprise overseeing Macau investment projects on Zhuhai’s Hengqin Island before long.
