The local observatory hoisted Standby Signal No.1 at 11 p.m. yesterday, which it predicted will remain in effect early this morning.

The observatory said in a statement that the tropical cyclone (TC) was centred within 800 kilometres of Macau last night, adding that the winds will strengthen.

According to the weather station, a tropical depression (T.D.) over the northern part of the South China Sea continues to approach the Pearl River Delta (PRD) area, which will bring unsettled weather to Macau today and tomorrow with strong winds and heavy showers. Therefore, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) urged the public to take precautions against floods and strong winds.

The observatory forecasts unsettled weather today with strong winds and showers, which will be heavy at times, adding that occasional thunderstorm will occur.

According to the SMG statement, the chance of hoisting Tropical Cyclone Signal No.3 this afternoon is “relatively low”.
