An exhibition entitled “Roude E Terra”, a collection of illustrations by young local artist Aya Lei, is on display at the 10 Fantasia gallery.

The event is being co-hosted by the Macau Handcraft and Creative People Association, 10 Fantasia – A Creative Industries Incubator and the St. Lazarus Church District Creative Industries Promotion Association.

According to Lei’s Facebook page, the main theme of the exhibition is based on the concept of a “circle”.

Geometrically it means the locus of all points equidistant from a central point. In human society, everyone has a safe distance and everyone’s life circle is a circle, and the equal intersection of each circle can form a wonderful pattern – the flower of life, according to her Facebook page, which is in Chinese.

According to Lei, the circle is a very beautiful structure and it is also very common. Painting within the circle aroused her interest as it is simple and rich, and hence the exhibition “Roude E Terra” has been created in a fixed circle range, a text on her Facebook points out.

Lei has been a local comic artist and illustrator since 2013 and has published five books. On her Facebook page, Lei describes herself as being good at depicting the composition of black and white, describing her artwork as “detailed”, with dense layers, far-reaching images and thought-provoking. Her Facebook text does not explain the English name of her exhibition. In Chinese, it is called “Circle and the World”.

Lei is active in the art scenes in Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China and participated in the Anno Street Art event in 2016.

The exhibition runs until May 31 at 10 Fantasia, which opens daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed in Mondays), in 10 Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro. Admission is free.
